I’ve covered the different membership categories available to your club members in past articles. Lions Clubs International (LCI) has special Membership Programs for families, college students, former Lions, young adults, and veterans that we sometimes miss in the normal routine of running our clubs.

Regular Member is the standard membership where a member pays a onetime entrance fee of $25 or charter fee of $30 and full annual international dues of $43 to Lions Clubs International (LCI), and is the program we are most familiar with. However, here are additional programs that you may not be aware of that are available to us and may help with our recruitment of new members.

The Family Membership Program gives families the opportunity to receive a special dues discount when they join a Lions club together. The first family member (head-of-household) pays full International dues of $43, and up to four (4) additional family members pay only half the annual dues of $21.50. All family members pay the one-time entrance fee of $25 or charter fee of $30. This program is open to family members who are (1) eligible for Lions membership (2) currently in or joining the same club, and (3) living in the same household and related by birth, marriage, or other legal relationship. To receive this dues rate complete the Family Unit Certification Form and submit it with the MMR or complete the certificate on My LCI. When chartering a new club complete the certification on the Report of Charter Members.

Student Membership is available for students enrolled in an educational institution who are between the ages of legal majority and age 30. They pay no entrance or charter fee and half international dues of $21.50. Students over age 30 joining a Campus Lions club pay a $10 entrance fee and full international dues. To receive the student-member rate complete the Student Member Certification Form and submit with the MMR or complete the certification on My LCI.

Leo Lion membership allows current or former Leos between the age of legal majority and through age 30, who have been a Leo for at least a year and a day, to continue doing volunteer work with LCI as a Lion. Leo Lions pay no entrance or charter fee and pay half international dues ($21.50).To receive this rate complete the Leo to Lion Certification and Years of Service Form and submit with the MMR or club charter application, or complete the certification on My LCI. To encourage Leo Lions to invite their friends, young adults between the age of legal majority and through age 30 who join a Leo Lions club receive the same fee waivers and dues discounts as Leo to Lions members.

Former Leos over the age of 30 who have been a Leo for at least a year and a day pay no entrance fee or charter fee when joining a Lions club. To receive the fee waiver complete the Leo to Lion Certification and Years of Service Form and submit with the MMR or club charter application or complete the certification on My LCI.

The Involve a Veteran Program provides qualifying veterans the opportunity to continue serving in a different way as Lions. This program was started in 2013 and will continue until June 30, 2017. Qualifying veterans receive an entrance or charter fee waiver. Eligible veterans include Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard personnel who are retired or were honorably discharged from these branches of service. National Guard and Reserve personnel who were called to active duty for other than training (persons may still be enlisted in these services) are also eligible. Veterans can be certified by completion of the Involve a U.S. Veteran Program Certification Form. This form and additional information is available from LCI at their website – www.lionsclubs.org.

I encourage you to take advantage of some of these programs if you are not already doing so. Your club may find one that may benefit one or more of your current members and may also help in recruiting prospective members for your club.

When we come together as Lions its only the beginning – when we stay together its progress – and when we work together, that’s when we have success! May your clubs have Success Through Service.

Yours in Lionism,
1VDG Diane Melnick
