Greetings from the Conklin Center

Conklin Center

Thanks to all the Lions Clubs throughout the state that have supported the Conklin Center with donations, life memberships, in kind support, visits to the Center, purchasing State of Vision license plate and projects that some Clubs have completed that uniquely support the Conklin Center. We know your budgets are “stressed” with so many requests for assistance, but we are thrilled that the Conklin Center remains in your budgets and we count on the Lions for support!

Just a little reminder that the Conklin Center for the Blind’s mission is to help children and adults who are blind with additional disabilities be independent and contributing citizens, for any new Lions! The Conklin Center was founded Past Lions International Director Millard Conklin and Don Wedewer, then Chief of the Division of Blind Services in 1979! The Conklin Center is the only facility in the United States that serves the visually handicapped with an additional disability!

Lots happening, to support the final months of the training, the students must learn to live independently; we have purchased a duplex, close by the Center, – near transportation, shopping and possible employment. Lots of opportunities for Lions, as we rehab the duplex for our students. Even could use Lions with paint brushing skills! Give us a call at 386 258 3441 for more information about the duplex and ways you can help get the duplex ready for our students.

The GALA, just a little ways off – March 24, 2016 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, We had a great time last year, made much needed money and decided to make it an Annual Event. Hope to see you there, several attachments to the Newsletters and on the Conklin Center web page conklincenter.org explaining ways you can help!

The Conklin Center has a wonderful, dedicated staff – it is a 24/7 operation – let Lions show their support!

Yours in Lionism,
Mary T Pezzo, President
