Sustainability at the 46th Annual Cedar Key Seafood Festival

After the collection of approximately 600 lbs. of compost, 700 lbs. of clam shells, and twenty 96 gallon carts of recyclables, it has been calculated that 53% of our festival’s waste was diverted from the landfill. This would not have been possible without the efforts of our non-profits, city employees Billy and Brian, student Noah Webster and citizen Larry Feldman for trailering compost to the Gernhardt’s Farm where the compost piles reside waiting to nourish vegetable crops.

100% transition to sustainable food service items by our food vendors combined with ongoing education on what is trash and what is a resource will boost our sustainability efforts for future festivals and the city of Cedar Key.

Thank you to all who participated. Together we have made a difference!
