October has been another exciting and busy month of club and district events. Along with several club visitations I attended with Governor Larry Hopkins we had our club’s “official” governor’s visit. As always it was an interesting and informative event and my club members enjoyed meeting one-on-one with District Governor (DG) Larry. For the clubs that have their visitations scheduled in the upcoming months I encourage all of your members to attend and support our Governor – you will learn a lot, have some fun, and not be disappointed.

Among all of our special club visits, Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG) Bob and I had a great evening at the Newberry Lions Club’s open house. We were treated to a delicious cook out and an Orientation Presentation by our Global Membership Team (GMT) Coordinator, Past District Governor (PDG) Tony Stefanowicz. But… the highlight of my evening was having the opportunity of meeting several of the club’s recipients of eye exams and eyeglasses. It was wonderful to hear firsthand the impact the Lions had on their lives. I also had the opportunity to meet, personally, an individual who is being sponsored through their club for cataract surgery through the FL Lions Foundation for the Blind. As one of your District’s Project Chairs I only get to see the paperwork involved with your requests for these surgeries. This was really special to me to meet one of the many individuals benefiting from your support and to hear how much such a life changing surgery will mean to him.

Between almost a dozen club visitations, the diabetic screenings, fundraisers, and all of the other things we’ve done it has been an educational, emotional, and fun month. I’m looking forward to continuing to do the same in future months so that I can meet more of our dedicated Lions. You truly are making a difference in the lives of so many and I can’t wait to hear about all that you have done and will do doing in your Service.

Next month I will have the opportunity to attend the classes at the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute (ALLI) in Schaumburg, IL. I have been looking forward to this opportunity for several years and am excited to be able to take advantage of such leadership training. After that there will be a little R&R as we travel to Kentucky for the Thanksgiving Holiday. This is always a special time for us where we can meet many of our old friends from our camping days. It is also the time of our “annual” visitation to the Jamestown KY Lions Club and renewing old friendships and learning from these special Lions.

We wish you a wonderful, safe, and blessed Thanksgiving. As you do remember that: “Coming Together is a Beginning – Keeping Together is Progress – and Working Together is Success”.

Yours in Lionism,
2nd VDG, Diane Melnick
